Just to prove I [can and do] eat healthy. Every once in awhile.
I’m on my no-meat-whatsoever kick again. After watching Food Inc on PBS it is a wonder I’m eating anything at all. I’m just glad it was about animals and not chocolate. Don’t wanna give up my chocolate. HA! I told David, if they would just make one about junk food to gross me out, all would be well, and my hips would be happy.
Anyhoo, I actually gave red meat up several years ago, thanks Wayne!, but continued to eat chicken, but since watching that video, I just can’t do it anymore.
I still cook it for David and the girls though. And just want to add that my weird aversion to meat has nothing to do with saving the animals. I’m just weird. It grosses me out.
A week or two ago David and the girls had spaghetti and meatballs for dinner……….. I wanted some too but didn’t have any meatless sauce, so I threw some red onions & tomatoes in a skillet with some olive oil and my new favorite {that i cook} meal was born.
Do you have any weird food issues? Have you watched Food Inc?
Just a little something funny David said to me last night……….he’s a hoot. Shoot, I can’t remember exactly what he said, he can correct me later but basically…….
He is going to have me locked away if I continue to get crazier/weirder/mental the older I get *snort*
This was after I sprayed a mosquito with 409 {because I don’t like to feel them squish in tissue } and wouldn’t pick it up because I had just washed my hands, and didn’t want to have to wash them again since I was in the middle of cooking supper. To which he replied it is dead, and I replied, but I’ll still have to wash my hands ………
Yes, I’m weird. I’m choosing to embrace it HA!

Oh you watched Food Inc!!! How was it? I have it on my instant netflix list. I’ve been meaning to watch it since forever!
Heheee! I love your mosquito story!! I hate the squish in the tissue thing too. You should see the amount of tissue I just used to kill an ant in the bathroom. Heheee! At least he had a cushioned death, right? And I’m thinking, why is there anything crwling in my house anyway. Two weeks ago I just had the pest control lady out here to spray everything. There isn’t suppose to be anything crawling around anywhere. Does the stuff not work? Ugh! Maybe it’s because I used a pest control lady. I was worried a lady couldn’t kill the bugs as good as a man could. Heheee!
hahaha! leah! you’re so funny! i wouldn’t think a gal could kill bugs as good as a guy either! ewww i can’t imagine doing what our bug guy does. and a cushioned death! teehee
i didn’t care for food inc. i kept turning my head. it’s kinda gross but very informational. some of the people got on my nerves toward the end…….. as a matter of fact i don’t think i finished watching it. there was a family on toward the end that were a little over weight and they were blaming everybody and their brother except for themselves {who are the ones that buy the stinkin’ cheeseburgers and eat them} ……. for their over weight problem
i have to have LOTS of tissue to kill bugs too….. when i tell the girls to get me some they bring like one sheet! ONE stinkin’ sheet. Oh, get this, the other day there was a dead cricket downstairs {{{ewwwwww}}} and i told emily to get it up and she picked it up!….with her hands! she looked at me like….get over it….. when i fussed at her for touching it…
I’ve been wanting to see that movie, in the hopes that after I do I will never want to eat again & then maybe I’d loose some weight! ha ha!
Now that you’ve mentioned it, I just may have to check the redbox for it! I personally don’t know how you can live without red meat, but I’m a meat & potato’s kinda girl & I love me some chicken!
And I see nothing wrong with spraying a bug with household items, if it’ll kill em’, heck just the other day I sprayed a spider in the bathroom with some hairspray!
check pbs.org first……. it may be coming back on. or you may be able to watch it instantly online.
ha! yes, hairspray……. used that lots of times too!
Hubs and I watched at least half of it. It’s so heartbreaking… in more ways than one. We were unable to watch all of it, and know we need to finish it… I’m just having a hard time turning it back on. Just so sad. I gave up meat for the grossness and cruelty… although, I still eat fish.
Your dish sounds yummy! You’re a good wife. Since I don’t eat meat anymore, I haven’t even cooked it for the family.

You have to quit blaming me for the red meat thing. You asked the questions, I only answered them.
hahaha! i’m not blaming you……. i’m thanking you……… i no longer eat the icky stuff….. unless i’m eating the gummy bears
cause we all know what their made of *snort* and aren’t you old enough for your wants not to hurt you…..
Uh… yeah. I thanked D for telling everyone in SS what I hear all the time.
Oh, could never do a no meat diet! Love my steak too much
Don’t worry…we’re all a little weird in one way or another

I have watched Food Inc. I have been trying to get my husband to watch it but he won’t. It was enlightening and I have changed some of the foods we buy. I can’t cut out beef but I am not buying grass fed beef.
After I watched it, I was consumed with what we were eating. Thankfully it has subsided a bit and I am on to gardening for the minute. I still care what we eat, I have just calmed down a bit I think:)
We’ve watched Food Inc twice. My hubby watched a little bit of it.
We had a ‘discussion’ one time about why I’m so picky about what I buy (I try REALLY hard to buy things from the USA – food wise) and natural or organic. He was worried about the cost, so I finally said .. ok. If I can stay within budget, will you just trust me.. he said ok.. phew…
It’s not hard, it is more expensive, but if we keep doing it.. more companies will join in and it will get cheaper..

Ok, we were definitely separated at birth!
1. I’m also in my hate-meat phase again! The texture icks me completely out. ~gagging a little just typing about it~
2. I sprayed a grasshopper with Sol-u-Mel (Melaleuca cleaner) just the other day, instead of picking it up and taking it outside. Hope the PETA people don’t read this…
3. I have Food, Inc. in my Netflix queue – we are gonna have to watch it now, for sure!
Heather, did you mean you are NOW buying grass-fed beef? (you typed “not” – just wondering if there’s something I don’t know about it, since I thought it was so much better??)
I have started buying organic grass-fed beef for the hubby & DD at the Farmer’s Market. Not much, though, since I’m trying to get them down to only once a week or less having meals with red meat. But it IS so much better – you can just look at it and see the difference in what you buy at the grocery store – and cheaper!!! Michelle – it’s the market right up the road if you’re interested (for David and the girls). I get most of our veggies there now, too, and bread – YUMMY bread!!
As far as food quirks…Ok, I’m gonna have to post about that…my list is too long and this comment is a novel already. LOL
PS: I *love* pasta without meat now… grilled veggies, olive oil, a little parmesan (ok, a lot of parmesan)…. ~drool~
I LOVED Food Inc.! Although, I had a hard time eating at all for about a week
. Great flick with lot’s of great info!
Totally with you here, Michelle. Meat grosses me out, and I especially cannot eat it if I’ve had to handle and cook it. {gag} Has nothing to do with saving animals. I believe in the circle of life. Meat just looks, feels, and smell gross. I’ll take grilled veggies over meat any day of the week. My hubby is convinced I will die from a protein deficiency. Hey, I eat peanuts! LOL I do eat meat occasionally… mostly chicken. I very rarely eat red meat. I’ve found that I adore not-so-fishy fish like halibut, flounder, and catfish. But everyone else in my family hates fish, so I lose. {sigh}
