Earrings & a Rant

by Michelle on May 29, 2009

So, yesterday I did something I have wanted to do since I was 17ish, maybe 18….. I had the upper part of my cartilage pierced. Back in the day girls were doing it themselves, at least the ones I knew, I tried doing mine, but the earring would not go through as easy as I thought (I only got it about halfway in) I was going to try again but then I heard a rumor, I can’t remember who told me, or even if it is true, but that if you hit a certain nerve it can paralyze you. So, I never tried again, and I was too scared to have someone else do it, even if they were considered a “professional”

Fast forward 18 years! Man, I’m getting old. I finally did it! Yesterday while the girls and I were out and about we past Claire’s, I think it was Emily who spoke up first, mommy you can get your ear pierced. We went in with the intent of just looking at the earrings and prices. I talked with the girl that works there, she has one, I asked her the same question I ask everyone I see with one, does it hurt. She assured me it did not. So, I just went ahead and did it. (it felt like a little pinch, for those of you wondering, it’s a little sore today)

Before she would do it, I had to fill out the standard paperwork. I remember filling it out for Emily & Audrey when they had their’s done. But yesterday it hit me and I have been thinking on it ever since……….

why anyone under 18 has to have a parent or guardian’s signature to get their ears pierced BUT a girl under 18 can get on birth control or have an abortion without her parent’s knowledge. does that seem strange to anyone else?????

That just really, I mean REALLY bothers me. I guess having all girls and hearing about how the “system” is already trying to come in between parents and their children. I know of moms who have been asked to leave their 16 or younger daughters in with doctors to “protect” them (whatever the name of that law is) How crazy is that? There is no way I will EVER leave my girls alone with someone who is there to “help” them. That’s what I’m here for. And sadly, most times they need to be protected from the ones (doctors, teachers, guidance counselors, friends & unfortunately, even some of those in the church) who say they only have our children’s best interest at heart. As grandma would say, that there’s a bunch of hogwash!

I know that there cases where children do need to be separated from their parents to talk to someone due to abuse. The ones I am speaking of wanted to talk to the daughters about s*x or getting on the pill. The doctor or nurse felt that the child would be more comfortable and open up if mom were not in the room.

Well, I need to jump down off my soapbox, and get to cleaning up!

Must Get Organized

by Michelle on May 28, 2009

One of these days, I am going to get organized. I figure if I tell myself that ALL the time, one of these days, I will. Goodness, I’ve got a mess of coupons on my hands. I have a binder, most of the ones in the binder have expired. I’ve got them in my purse, in the kitchen, still needing to be cut out, the ones that have already been cut out are in one big, unorganized pile. ugh!

Harris Teeter is tripling coupons this week so last night I spent a couple hours sorting through coupons, getting lists together, and throwing out the expired ones. Does anyone know where I can send the expired ones? I remember seeing something about this but can’t remember.

The girls were not too excited when I told them we would be hitting up three Harris Teeter’s today on our trip to town. It always takes forever because I am not familiar with that store. I remember one day I probably looked 20 minutes for the peanut butter! It was awful. I’ve been trying to remember where it is since I have three Skippy coupons. I think I’ll ask today instead of just walking up and down each aisle a hundred times.

This picture really has nothing to do with this post. It’s one I took of Audrey playing kickball. She gets her kicking skills from her momma!

It’s almost midnight, and I’m up playing on photoshop! But I wanted to get these pictures posted. I have a hair appointment in the morning. Nothing drastic, just a trim and more highlights.
This afternoon we went to one of the local trails. It was hot. But we made it to the end. Poor David, not [...]

Chickadee is doing it. Sarah is doing it. Gayle is doing it. I’m sure that many more are doing it, and as of today, I am doing it, at least half of it, I watched the other half while sitting in the floor.  I thought I could pull one over on Jillian, and I [...]

FOURTEEN YEARS!
Today, David and I have been married for fourteen years. I can’t believe it. Not that we made it this far, but how fast it has gone by!
Since we have church tonight, we went out and celebrated last night. One of the things I love most about David is he doesn’t wait [...]
