** if you are a guy, just go up and hit the little x, close out this post, run, be warned this post is for girls only**
On the 21st of January Emily turned 10 years old. I’ll post more about her birthday later today, I have a couple pictures I need to take of our finished pottery.
But the older she gets, the more I dread "the talk" dread it like crazy. Dread it like I dread that time of the month. My face turns red just thinking about it. It’s red right now. Ugh!
For probably the past year I have thought about how to handle it, when to tell her, what to to tell her, if I could possibly pass this on to someone else.
Yesterday I took the girls to the library and while we were there I looked for a book or two geared to young girls and the changes that their bodies take the older they get.
oh.my.word.
The first book was for 6 – 8 year old girls. I think it may have had one page on puberty, the other pages were full of what mommy & daddy do behind closed doors. With pictures! of both male & female. Nothing graphic, they were drawings, but enough to turn my face 10 shades of red, make me drop to the floor in the fetal position, suck my thumb and cry mommy.
And I’m sure if the girls saw it, every time David and I are an inch apart, goodness, I don’t even want to think about what would go through their minds.
And I know Audrey well enough to know, that she would ask questions every time she thought "something" was going on, just to make me blush and run away screaming.
Most all the books were like that! Who writes these books? And for young girls!! I had no clue that books went into such detail for kids this young. And the books geared toward boys, don’t get me started, I’m sure a man wrote them, based on the titles alone.
I was just looking for a book about shaving, wearing a bra & that dreaded time of the month. Instead I get a refresher course on how babies are made.
ugh! If I’m this stressed over talking about the "menstrual cycle" I’m gonna be ready for the funny farm when it comes time to talk about the birds and the bees!
I did end up checking out the American Girl one (they sell it at Bath & Body) so I could read over it before buying it. From what I have looked at so far this is just what I was wanting. A nice book on taking care of the female body and what to expect to happen the older you get.
Any tips? book recommendations? Any of you aunts wanna handle this for me?
