More of Emily’s Birthday

For Emily’s birthday this year we gave her an Nintendo ds. She loves it very much and now we only see the top of her head! David ordered it online from Circuit City a week or two before her birthday because we could not find them anywhere. But when we went to pick it up ~ they did not have it! We did get a $24.00 gift card because it was not ready in 24 hours. Which if you ask me, we should have gotten a $24.oo gift card for everyday we thought they had it in stock. We were able to pick one up the next day at Wal-Mart because they had a shipment come into the store. Audrey got a pick one for Christmas and they are able to chat together with them. Normally, when they do this they are sitting right beside each other on the couch. At first I thought this very silly! Just talk! But it really is a lot of fun. So much fun that David had the idea we should use them in church to make comments about the message. Which is a good thing too if you think about it, because I am always making comments that I don’t want anyone to hear. I did give the girls one rule for when they take them in the car on trips. When they want to argue they have to “chat” about it. This way I can still listen to my favorite tunes without them fussing in the background.

I baked Emily’s cake the night before her birthday and waited to decorate the next day. I had planned to do it before we left to go rock climbing knowing we would not be home until late. But I do what I do best and that is put things off.  That evening, once I got dinner going, I started making the icing. Who knew that a cup of crisco mixed with powdered sugar could be so good?!? After I finished the cake I put it away until after dinner. Now, I am no cake decorator, never have been, and more than likely will never be. But when I took the cake out and put it on the table, Emily gasped and said in awe, mommy did you make this? I turned to see if she was looking at the same cake, as she said it was beautiful. Yep, same cake! Only David and I saw  The Leaning Tower of Pisa. I wish I could have blamed how bad it looked on the fact that I was starting to get sick, but that would have been a lie.  And we all know what you call someone who tells lies! For your viewing pleasure here is a picture of the most beautiful birthday cake.

Y’all wanna see something so sweet? Something even sweeter than icing made with Crisco?

This right here was made by Andy. A little fellow from church. Since Emily was probably 3 or 4 she has called him her boyfriend. Even when he said he wasn’t! About a year ago Emily asked me why he didn’t like her anymore. I told her it was because he was 7 and little boys do not like girls at 7. Well, I guess a lot has changed since last year. I don’t know who’s face turned more red, his when he gave it to her,  hers when she opened it OR David’s when he saw what was in the package.

(We are going to hot glue the little hearts down and frame it for her room. )
