There are a lot of things that come to my mind about food that most normal people do not even think about. Like, okay this is really out there, a couple of months ago I told David the reason why I do not eat pinto beans ~ they look like brown bugs. Okay, there I said it! I have a ton of food issues (One would think that it would be easy for me to lose weight being that there are SO many)
Here are a couple of examples ~
I don’t eat hotdogs anymore because I found out there are all kinds of things in them ~even the beef ones ~
Liver Pudding ~ Okay, I admit that I was a little slow when I was younger but does it really take a genius to figure out what this is. Apparently, because I did not know until I read the back of the package! (Years later)
Grits ~ one of my all time favorite foods! But I have not had them in over a year because one day I found a nest of ant eggs and every time I see them that is what I think of
Eggs ~ I hate to crack eggs and have even been know to gag while doing so. This may come as no surprise but I have NEVER let the girls crack an egg, no matter how much they beg and tell me that Sherri lets them do it.
Meat ~ you all know my weirdness when it comes to meat ~ especially raw meat. But did you know that I have a hard time eating hamburgers if I happen to hear one of the neighbor’s cows moo ~
Chicken ~ we’ll get to that in a minute
But see this is what I am talking about ~ Everything I have listed I actually like. So, why is it so hard for me to eat it? I have no clue, so if you come up with something besides me being weird and all, let me know. I am hoping this is connected to some type of phobia because then I won’t feel so weird about it knowing there are others out there who are just like me =P
Oh, and this came up last night. Emily was asking David if she could eat her apple with peeling and whole last night. After he told her yes, I told him the reason she is asking is because I normally make them eat it without the peeling and most of the time I cut it up incase there is a worm in it! My poor kids!
Okay, now on to chicken and the whole reason for this crazy post. After church last night we went out for burgers with several other families. Normally when we do this everyone just moves from booth to booth to chit chat for a minute. Wayne made his way over to our table and we were talking about different things. As usual the topic of conversation moved to food (Wayne is going to culinary school) I always have a couple of questions for him or he tells us about his latest class. Which by the way, last week in class he ate tar tar (I don’t know if that’s right or not) in other words raw meat! We started talking about cheese and told him how I just found out that Kraft American Cheese slices are not real cheese. He went on to tell us that most times if it is not real it will have 3 e’s or a z instead of an “s”. Then he said something about chicken wings not being real if that had a “z” in them. It was just formed ground chicken. I said something like, that’s not what they have at Wal-mart, is it (Emily loves that stuff) I can’t remember what he said but I do remember he said that’s what the popcorn chicken is! WHAT!?!? We get that all the time! I thought it was chicken breast cut up and deep fried. (you know, all white meat, no fillers) Wrong! There is no telling what is in those tiny little popcorn chicken things. I have been thinking about that all day today. All that time I wasted picking each one of them apart, throwing away all the brown spots, thinking it was just one of those nasty little veins! Oh, there is no telling what I was picking out of them and throwing in the trash! What’s worse is there is no telling what part of the silly chicken I was eating! Gross! Wayne asked me last night if I liked enough veggies to become a vegetarian. Yes, there have been many times that I have gone down that road before and it may not be too long before I go down it again! Matter of fact it might be right now! Because as soon as I finished up my meatball sub this afternoon, I could not help but wonder what part of the cow I was eating!
